Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen alumnus sails around the world on wind, water and sun
On a self-sufficient sailing yacht around the world. Niels Tammeling, together with his best friend Tjerk Zweers, will go on a three-year tour to raise awareness about renewable energy. During the trip they will recycle plastic and offer medical assistance in remote areas.
Four years ago, the friends bought a sailboat to live on. They established the foundation Trintella4Green as well as a sailing school. Now they completed the build of their ship and will set sails in September 2017. In the meantime they are saving money to make a documentary about their special project. Through this documentary they want to communicate their message, share knowledge and, at the same time, inspire people. The film shall be further used for technical education in primary and secondary school.
While studying mechanical engineering at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen
, Niels Tammeling came in contact with renewable energy. He rebuilt his boat to become a fully self-sufficient island. His goal was to be able to support themselves at all times. For this, he generates energy in different ways, makes his own drinking water on board and monitors everything that happens. During the trip, this can be followed live on their website. In addition, he developed his own plastic recycling machine with the knowledge he gained during his studies and at EnTranCe.
Niels and Tjerk offer different crowdfunding packages on One Planet Crowd
. For example, you can put your own name on their boat, or they will send you a personal card. Moreover, you can take part in their sailing trip on their yacht before or during the trip.
