On January 20 2016, EnTranCe opened its doors to celebrate together with staff, students and business partners the start of the new EnTranCe year 2016.
The day started off in the Energy Barn, our new and energy-neutral event facility, partly made of straw, with a short review of the highlights 2015 – the opening of the new EnTranCe building by King Willem-Alexander, the knighting of Prof. Wim van Gemert and the TransFuture Festival. Dr. Ir. Jan Jaap Aué, Director of the Centre of Expertise Energy, further offered our guests an outlook on the challenges EnTranCe is facing in 2016 such as the focus of Hanze Energy Research and the speed-up of innovation and developments.
The program continued with a presentation by Frits Dröge about the Energy Transition Community and its focus on accelerating the energy transition by connecting education, research, business, government and NGO’s. During the Final Symposium, a total of 50 students presented the final outcomes of their individual or group projects in the EnTranCe building to the public. In four presentation rooms with the topics Sustainable Households (Duurzaam Ameland), Sustainable Mobility (050 BikeShare), Sustainable Buildings and Innovative Energy Projects, our guests had the opportunity to get an insight in the developments within the Energy Transition Community and to share their opinion regarding these state-of-the art energy projects.
After two rounds of presentations, our guests walked back to the Energy Barn to join the first official screening of ‘EnTranCe – the Movie’. The film addresses the future of energy with a special focus on energy technology and systems, and further describes the efforts of EnTranCe, GasTerra and the island of Ameland to accelerate energy transition processes. To create an authentic movie theatre atmosphere popcorn, hotdogs and soft drinks were provided by De Smaak van het Noorden. After the screening film producer Joost de Smeth, creative director of Strawberry Fields, gave a short insight in his personal experience during the filming of ‘EnTranCe – The Movie’.
